Webinar #23 looks at PLC Courses in Colleges of Further Education (FET’s) which offer an alternative route into 3rd level, opportunity to sample areas of interest without having to committee to several years and also offers vocational qualifications eg Special Needs Assistant SNA.

PLC’s offers specific courses to suit all interests. The following factors are important to consider when looking at:

  • as a mature student wanting to ease your way back into education.
  • back up options to your CAO choices,
  • taking a gap year to explore a career area or prepare for HPAT or other applications or meet necessary requirements eg driving licence for Paramedics course.
  • develop skills to benefit your future career or

Timing

  • 0-39 minutes: Synergy Careers, Julie O’Connor talks about QQI progression route, opportunities it provides, benefits to students and how to research via CAO website, Careersportal and Qualifax.
  • 39-59 minutes: Panel discussion with Anthony Maude DCU recruitment officer, and Sheena Halton Rathmines College of Further Education. We looked at benefits experienced by the students progressing from PLC to DCU, how to apply, cost benefits, open days.
